As a group, we painted and decorated a giant
mailbox. Then each child made their own Rosh Hashanah card
for his/her family. The children put the card in an envelope
and put it in their pretend mailbox. Little do they know,
I took out the cards, stamped them and put them in the real
mailbox to be mailed.
After showing the children a real pomegranate,
Maytal and I created a stencil of one. The children could
create then trace and cut out their own pomegranate. The
pits were made out of red tissue paper and when the project
was done, we posted it on the wall outside the classroom.
The children also created a beautiful apple
tree made of colorful materials. This led to a great discussion
about the different parts of the tree.
This past Wednesday was our field trip to
Homestead farm. What a great time was had by all as the
children picked their own apples from dwarf apple trees,
fed and petted farm animals and had a blast going on a hay
ride. The next day with the help of Maya’s dad, Jeff,
the class made apple sauce from the apples picked at the
farm. It was delicious. Thank you Jeff!
As a follow up, we asked the class to tell
us about their favorite part of the trip and then to draw
a picture of that experience. When it is finished, we will
put together in a book and each student will have an opportunity
to bring it home to share with the family their wonderful
experience of their field trip to the farm.
Today, Friday, September 26, we played the
tasting game. Each child had to taste a green, red and yellow
apple. They then had to tell us which color apple they like
best. That information was put on a graph and the results
will tell us which color apple is the most popular among
the ARAYOT.
